Petticoat Junction?

Part 1 Addendum...

While we were in Chattanooga, touring the hotel which used to be Union Station, we walked amongst the railcars now functioning as sleeping rooms.  I took a bunch of pictures.  When I got home, I noticed this picture was something special.... women's wet swimwear hanging out to dry, over the safety gate on the rear of the car.  That's a bit unusual...

Do any of you remember the show "Petticoat Junction," which aired on American TV from 1963 through early 1970?   This might bear a passing resemblance to the scene in each show's introduction. Betty Jo, Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo and their dog all were appropriately standing in the railroad water tank, after apparently "skinny dipping" in it, with each one's petticoat (including the dog's) hung carefully over the edge of the tank.

The women are certainly missing from this picture, but their swimsuits remain plainly visible, even though not neatly spread out.

Petticoat Junction?

PS:  Anyone notice that the left side of the car is tilted down, lower than the right, and it doesn't appear to be caused by the track...not a good sign.

  1. I definately remember "Petticoat Junction" I thought the girls and their clothes were beautiful and I am sure I was jealous.

With your inspiration and encouragement I did do the 5-6 hour ride to Rochester yesterday while dressed.

I did not get out of work as early as I hoped but eventually got back to the condo to pack. I have enough stuff with me for a month. I needed several businss suits, shirts, ties and shoes for the day time. I have male casual clothes for a few casual encounters that I expect over the next few days and I have several sets of underwear and slips, four skirt and top combinations and three dresses along with my dark brown stilettos, taupe high heels, black heels, 3" beige wedges and a pair of beige flats.

When I got home to pack the condo was hot with the temperature and humidity both close to 90. I did not have the time to turn on the A/C since it takes several hours to cool the place even a few degrees. I showered and shaved and then went to the basement to do my dressing and makeup where it was a little cooler. I went with simple foundation, some eyeliner and light purple shadow. I added mascara blush and lipstick.

I put on my bra, boobs, pantyhose, slip and topped it with a blue tank top and my blue denim skirt. Getting out of the driveway was a scare and it seemed every time I needed to go to the car to do some loading or to try to leave another neighbor was walking by either getting exercise for themself or more likely walking their dog. I finally hit the road about 5 but did not put my wig on or even switch to my 3" heels for driving until the car A/C gave me some relief from the heat. Early in the drive the temperature on the car thermostat was over 90. I hit some thunderstorms on the drive up and when I got here it was 30 degrees cooler.

I made two P-stops at rest areas and switched back to my beige flats and took off the wig and dangly earings. At the first one I did not encounter anyone but there were several people at the second one.

When I got to the hotel I switched back to flats and threw some shorts on over my denim skirt. I took off my wig and earings but anyone that looked could still see my makeup. Check in was no problem. The clerk had a definate 'gay' affect'.

After settling into my room I freshened my makeup, tossed a light jacket over my tank top and skirt, grabbed my purse and a bag with my heels and went out looking for something to eat and drink.

I went to an LGBT friendly bar but they were no longer serving food. I ordered a beer and the bartender suggested that I go across the street to another bar to get some takeout. The other bar had a very large, young and rough looking crowd so I passed on the food and went back to the first bar to finish my beer. On my way back to the hotel I stopped into a 7-11 and a McDs for something to eat.

On a prior visit I had met an androgene and expect that we will meet later at a coffee house. At our last meeting he was dressed in hose and heels, tight, ladies beaded denim capris, a velour blouse and jewelry. He wore light makeup with his long gray hair, mustache and goatee.

I have to get to work now.

    1. Pat,

Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm happy that you "did it" and had fun! It will get easier from here on!

You always have positive comments about my travelogs... Well, girlfriend, I think yours are top notch - I enjoyed every word! Keep on doing, and keep on writing!

Now, for the $64,000 question (remember that show on the Telly from way back?) after the exciting drive, were you able to "come back to earth" and actually do some gainful work????

      Hugs,

      Mandy

It was really nice to get out again tonight. I wore my blond wig, black and white print top with a blue skirt, beign pantyhose and brown pumps. I met this fellow that I had met 6 or so months ago. He is a really nice guy who is somewhat of an androgene. He is a true craftsman by trade. You came to mind in that he has a strong interest in old trains and referred me to an old train line that runs tours south of Rochester. He became a train fan as a child and seems to have a wealth of good feelings about trains and train travel.

For me it was a pleasant evening out. I had a sandwich, a smoothie and a good cup of coffee. After we parted ways I stopped at a bar for a beer before heading to Dunkin Donuts and back to the hotel.

I hope to have one more night out after work tomorrow and may be looking for a few different places to go.

It is now past my bedtime but if you do not mind I would like to refer him to your blog. Based on his androgenous style of dress, his interest in old trains, his spirit and his understanding of cars as an art form he may enjoy some of your writings.

  3. I went out again last night. I wrote the long version a Joanna's site "Musings from my everyday life". http://joannabefree@blogspot.com. In short I went to Mass, then to a coffee house, then to a pizza parlor, then to a bar. I am getting more and more comfortable with each successive outing. There were two places that I had wanted to go but I got cold feet so my being out in a dress is still a work in progress.

    1. Read the full-length version at Joanna's blog, great adventure! You've made great progress. I've heard that once you kick the door off the closet, it's hard to go back in...I'm finding that to be very true!

This is going to be a long-awaited femme weekend for me. Today I'll be dressed in white capris and a women's polo, with white sandals. After I drop my wife off at the train for a week at her sister's in another state. I'll go to the nail salon and have my fingers (maybe toes too) done in bright red, and there I can change from a polo to the pink floral blouse you've seen on this blog. Then it's off to DC to check into the motel, and get ready for some sightseeing. A couple dinners, a museum, and a couple breakfasts, plus a lot more. But, I'll write about that later!

In the meantime, have a safe trip home...
