The Grocery Store!
I'm smiling, because the clerk at the grocery store started a rather lengthy discussion about my french manicure, which doesn't show up too well in this picture. She asked if I had a french pedicure too, so I showed her my red toe nails. That surprised her, but she liked...and thought they were even more feminine than if they were French!

"Where did you get your cute flats?" (Payless, of course).
And then we talked about the advantages of wearing heels with Capri's.
She prefers the look, and encouraged me to try it. She suggested
wearing my Capri's with peep-toe 3-inch heeled pumps, to help make my
legs look longer, and to keep my pedicure on display for all to see.
"Just make sure the peep-toe openings are big enough to show at
least 3 toes on each foot, so your pretty nails show off nicely."
I told her that I've never worn heels before. So she recommended starting by wearing 1 inch heels all the time, every day, till walking and wearing them becomes second nature, then progress to 2 inch, and so on. "There's no doubt that once you get used to wearing heels, you'll
want to be in them all the time."
Then she handed me my receipt, and stepped out from behind the counter to show me what she was wearing. Wow...no jeans and sneakers at work for that girl...and she actually practices what she preaches. A cashier, who's on her feet all day, in Capri's and peep-toe heels, and a beautiful red pedicure with nail art on the three visible toes of each foot... "Here's a sample of how you can look, sweetie. Why not wear your heels when you come in next time? I'd love to see how pretty you are in them!"

She didn't have a way to know, but at one point I had purchased some really sexy 3 inch heels, and tried to wear them. They looked fabulous, especially with a bright red pedicure and nylons! Well, girls, I tried a lot, but just couldn't walk in them, and in addition, they left heel indentations in the hardwood and vinyl floors at home, thus limiting their usefulness. If I can't wear something, I don't keep it, so they went to charity...too bad, though. I'd have preferred to be able to wear them, particularly with a short sundress! Here's a picture:
Tell me what you think, ladies! (Or gents!)
And yes, the girls at the salon are definitely "spot on" as usual...pedicures, manicures and
shoes are fantastic female conversation starters!
Hi Mandy,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great when you have these experiences. I remember a visit to a lingerie where we chatted about things like this for over an hour.
The heels debate! I remember a time when I went a little crazy wearing them. Every time I went out I simply had to have them on. Now I almost always wear flats in town.
There is one little problem with heels though. Even though we are female at heart we were unfortunately born with male bodies and our natural shape means heels are not good for our ankles. Because our centre of gravity is more forwards than a female at births, heels then stress our ankles in the wrong way. I have been told it's moderation all the way, don't even think about 5 inch's for long periods. Aim for 1 or 2's and stick to that.

Hi Lucy!
ReplyDeleteYou've done something I haven't tried...a lingerie department or shop! Good for you!!!
I've tried 3" heeled sandals before, and they were uncomfortable as the dickens. Sexy, without a doubt. The guys would have loved seeing me mince around in them. But I could barely walk. I got rid of them because if I can't wear it, I don't need it.
Regarding heel heights: my friendly clerk at the grocery store couldn't have believed I was female...or could she? I didn't look that good. But if she did, then I'm flattered. And I didn't realize the bit about the center of gravity...thanks for that info.
In reality, when I finally start wearing true heels, I'll definitely take your advice to start with 1 inch "true heels", which I believe will be fine - I have some unit-bottom slides with 1" heels and they're comfortable. Then I can try some true 2 inch heels.
Based on my prior experience I doubt I'll ever get to the 3 inchers!
I'm new at this blogging stuff, and don't really know that what has been added so far is working or visible, though it all shows up from my end.
Could you do me a really big favor by making sure all 7 of my posts show up "from your end" and let me know?
Thanks so much!
Hugs,
Mandy
Hi Mandy,
ReplyDeleteAll the 7 posts (there's now a couple more!) were showing at the time.
The lingerie shop, every girl should visit one! I can't guarantee the same reception your side of the pond but here is a write up of mine: http://www.prettylucy.co.uk/oddments/lingerieshop.htm
Hi Lucy,
