Couldn't believe it...

The pink dress below is over 4 years old, and I haven't worn it at all for two years, or around my wife for at least three (in the past, she's rebelled any time I tried to wear it, even just inside the house.)  The reason: this dress is very short, and it's tough to keep my legs together enough to remain modest.  So it sat neglected in the closet, behind my everyday house dresses.   Back then, I wouldn't even think of wearing anything this short out in public.  Bending over without showing my panties was almost impossible...as was crossing my legs in a feminine manner.

Today, in an attempt to force some summertime tan into my still-winter-white legs and shoulders, I announced to my wife that I was going to wear "the pink dress you dislike so much, to go sunbathing on the deck."  And she made no comment about it, except after seeing how I looked.   "Just be sure to keep those knees together and you'll be fine."  So I wore it from about 11 AM till about 3 PM, inside the house and out on our deck periodically, to sunbathe.   (Only burned my shoulders a little...)

With such a short hemline,  there's no way I could stop the "leg show" every time I sat down - it just happened automatically.  I guess that's something girls get used to at an early age.  And if I wear it more often, I will, too.  Since crossing my legs in typical feminine manner is still impossible, I tried to keep my knees as close together as possible, to minimize flashing my panties,  and only needed a few reminders to "close 'em up."

Wearing such a short dress felt fabulous.  I'd forgotten exactly how wonderful it can be.  And this time around, I heard no complaints.   Wow...that's another first!   I've got to try wearing this around here more often...to see if the envelope may actually have stretched a little bit more.  I really like the look and feel of shorter skirts and dresses, even at my (advanced) age...

Since this particular dress is somewhat thin and a bit revealing (more like a nightgown in that regard), its best future may end up being "worn with a cami over a pair of capris or, in cooler weather, stirrup pants."  But perhaps my small success today will mean that someday I will find myself in a pretty evening dress of similar length, when I go out on the town!

That is a cute dress but there are three issues that we share that make it too short for us to wear out and about:
    1. At our size and weight we just cannot close or cross our legs in a way that we could if we were younger, smaller and thinner
    2. Our anatomy simply does not allow us to cross our legs or keep them together in the same was that a woman could
    3. I can hear my wife commenting on one of my shorter dresses that the hemline was too high to be worn by a man or woman over 60.

Nevertheless, wearing it around the house or even as a sleeping garment would be putting the dress to good use in my opinion.

    1. Pat,

I agree with #'s 1 & 2 completely. Those are correct for me.

As for #3, I can hear my wife saying precisely what you quoted. So, for a nice evening outfit, I might opt for something halfway between the knee and that hemline shown (like 1 or at most 1-1/2 inches above the knee).

As for this particular dress, it probably will end up being worn around the house, as you suggest. But I have an urge to try it as the tunic over a pair of capris when my wife is out of town. That will serve the purpose of putting me in a short dress, but still protect my modesty for me. I've seen women of all ages doing that, and it looks quite nice!

FWIW. I started sleeping in it last night!

  2. My wife and I do agree that the proper length for most women's skirts and dresses is at the knee +/- 2".

    1. Sounds like my idea of 1" to 1.5" above the knee, should be just about perfect!

I was out thrift-shopping today, but couldn't find any skirts with elastic waists. All of them were fixed waists. That doesn't work well for me. I found, but didn't buy, a blouse that looked nice, but was a bit too short. And I also found, but didn't buy, a pair of open toe sling back wedge shoes. They fit...

If they are still there next time I go in, I may buy the shoes...they feel more wearable than my regular heels. And if I can be wearing the skirt I want to wear the blouse with, I may even reconsider that!

  3. Hi Mandy!

I suppose I agree that the dress may be a bit a little too short when out in public, especially if there is a breeze :-) But heck yes, why not wear it around the house? It looks like it would be wonderfully cool in warmer months.

And another step forward with your wife accepting a more feminine you - that's wonderful!!!

    1. I still may get to wear it around the house at times, but my wife had a bit of a relapse of "N(ot) M(y) H(usband) syndrome...will be in my next post. I expected it...she was too quiet for too long. So, not a surprise.

But the fact I got several days of wearing it before that happened is indeed a good sign!

  4. Oh, and I forgot to mention that you have nice legs! Skirts and dresses work for you very well!

  5. Thanks for the compliment! I've heard that before...and don't mind showing them off a bit. They're likely my most feminine asset!
