New Dress...for my January trip. Need some advice...

At a party last weekend, I ran into the lovely woman who liked my necklace at another party a few weeks ago...and she fingered it again this time, while wondering when I'd wear the bracelet.  I told her that I might wear it, or might not, and her words were "you should!"  For some odd reason I suspect that might get me a dose of my wife's "stink eye"!

I bought a new dress on line, a jumper that actually had a chance of fitting.  A couple of the ones I tried on in the thrift shop were just too tight.   This one is a bit too loose, but it's my regular size.  I don't know whether I should try to have it taken in. That locks me into a size, and if they don't get it right, it might not feel comfortable any more.   What do you ladies think?   Acknowledge the fact that I'm a big girl and leave it as is?  Try taking it to a seamstress to make it a bit smaller?  Or would a belt work OK?  If so, what style?

Any thoughts on the topic would be appreciated...

Happy Holidays to each of you reading this!

  1. Most of the dresses and skirts in my closet have some 'fit' issue or another. It is often a bit of a 'hit or miss' proposition to find ladies clothes that fit my oversized profile.

I nevertheless do not send stuff back. I find a way to wear stuff although there are items that have not seen the light of day for a long time.

That jumper looks nice. Jumpers are designed to look a little big and are mainly a comfort item. Since you will be doing a lot of train riding I think that it would be a nice easy item to pack and wear and feel at ease and comfortable while traveling. It is a dress but it is not dressy and as such can be deemed comfort wear and no one would be looking for it to fit as nicely as a more formal dress.

    Just my two cents.

    1. Thanks, Pat! I wasn't sure about it. Appreciate the answer!

Looks like I'll take along 3 skirts (one the long denim skirt) and blouses/tops, plus the jumper, with numerous turtlenecks for under it. The longer skirts will be perfect on the train, as I'll be sitting a lot. Shorter ones will be ideal for when I'll be walking or standing at my various destinations.

I figure I'll get lots of wear out of my black tights - both with skirts as well as the jumper.

Unfortunately I'll have to stick with leggings and stirrup pants both enroute to, and at, the convention I'll be attending, as well as the first leg of the return trip. But after that, Mandy will hopefully be able to get out and about.

      More later, as things develop...

      Happy Holidays!

  2. Black tights have become a bit of uniform standard wear for women. They always look good and they go with everything and they afford a level of modesty in a dress or skirt that is higher than nude pantyhose.

    Enjoy your trip.

Let me also wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

    1. Thanks, and the same to you and your family...

If the weather out west is warm enough that I don't need tights, I'll have to wear nude pantyhose instead. Given the strange weather this year (who would have believed 64 degrees in the wee hours of Christmas morning OR that the poor, unfortunate forsythia in sheltered areas would be trying to bloom in December), anything can happen.

In that case, I'll have some black panties to wear with my pantyhose. That will help a little in the modesty department.

I sure hope this trip works out! Please keep your fingers crossed...

  3. Happy Holidays Mandy.

It should be cool enough that tight's won't be that uncommon, although most cis-women won't be wearing anything on their legs. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your trip out here.

    1. And Happy Holidays to you, too!

Thanks for the advice on tights... They probably will be best. And though my plans are now made, there are a thousand things which could interfere (including Mom's situation), so I'm hoping everything works out!
