I flatly refused to spend my leisure time in the basement, with radon and what-not-else. My reasoning: I'll have an eternity to spend "down in the ground", when the grim reaper someday comes to call. I'm not starting any earlier than I have to! And there was no room for a "train room" above ground.

So the compromise was to build my own table, around the edges of the room. It worked well at the other house, and here (I'm older now) we paid a handyman to do it. Which was a good thing...he had to insert an additional support up in the attic, to keep the weight (bigger table with much longer span) from pulling the drywall down.

I concur with your comment about strangers and feminine pronouns....the folks at the post office know me now. So, the only ones who use my preferred form of address are the temporary help... I can live with that... We'll see how it goes on my trip...

Be safe...

MandyMandy Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01547323395921637440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-8731309721337973882015-01-05T06:36:07.437-08:002015-01-05T06:36:07.437-08:00It is an interesting concept to hang the train boa...It is an interesting concept to hang the train board from the ceiling. I hope that you get your operational issues resolved soon.
My wife loves model train displays and likes to see them when they tend to surface around Christmas time. A few years ago we went to the Christmas train show at the NY Botanical Gardens. The trains were totally secondary to the twigs and other stuff and the trains that they used just did not fit with the rest of the decor. it was a waste of time but since the Botanical Garden is near Arthur Avenue in the Bronx we did get a great Italian meal while we were there.

It surely seems that you are more frequently pegged as a woman by strangers than as a man. Interesting.

PatPat Scaleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00148601231866277374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-55335714209707833482015-01-03T14:36:16.192-08:002015-01-03T14:36:16.192-08:00Thanks, Betty... Usually I'm not that good with words!

When I was into HO, I had lots of Rivarossi equipment. Very good train models. But that all went away when I switched to O scale. Having my train in the living room all year round sure beats having it in the cold (in the winter) basement. And it's not "under-foot" up by the ceiling...

As this situation develops, I'll keep you updated...

Hugs,

Mandy

PS Might even post a couple more train pix...Mandy Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01547323395921637440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-50660253026419886682015-01-03T03:29:54.950-08:002015-01-03T03:29:54.950-08:00Mandy,

There were two brands, very famous here in Italy, Rivarossi and Lima and I had just some pieces of Lima, the cheaper one.
Wonderful also your humour sense in that "Houston we have a problem" and the clever way you solved it.
Please, keep on writing on this issue.
Hugs.
BettyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
