"have a beautiful and blessed day, Ma'am" - ROTFLMAO!

I've got strong religious opinions, while I believe in a higher power, it's not the one written about by the religions of man. I feel it's arrogant to think that there hasn't been a ton of lost-in-translation over the centuries in religious writing. Cynically I don't think us humans have a clue about that higher power. And how many times has religion been used to control those not in power?

As for people in the medical profession, they deal with things more important then gender issues. Life and health trump the pettiness, selfishness, ignorance, and so on. They have to deal with the injuries inflicted by the intolerant haters, so I'm sure they don't want to emulate any of their bad behavior.

Hugs all!
Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14889558097783943872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-90536702720339512912016-06-10T09:09:51.068-07:002016-06-10T09:09:51.068-07:00Thanks!

Stay tuned.

I can see where the mis-gendering hassle could be really serious in your situation. Hopefully you can discover a tactful way to get them to respond in the correct way. (Or maybe even a non-tactful way?)

Interestingly, I'll need to get my driver's license renewed soon. While the new one will still show a little "M" for another cycle, as I'm not transitioning at this point, I think I'll arrange to go to the DMV right after a hair appointment, when my stylist has made my long hair look as girly as possible.

Might as well look the part of an "F" even though the "M" is staying for a while...

MandyMandy Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01547323395921637440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-35524550128279804832016-06-10T08:57:37.352-07:002016-06-10T08:57:37.352-07:00Yes, the key is exactly as you state. We have the right of free association. I freely choose who I wish to associate with and feel others can do the same. If they do not want to associate with me, regardless of my presentation, that is their right. If it makes me feel bad I just say tough on me. I do not have the right to force others to associate with me, let alone to like me. That is their choice.
PatPat Scaleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00148601231866277374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-58749324189538911882016-06-06T18:32:27.825-07:002016-06-06T18:32:27.825-07:00Leave it to lil’ ol’ me to stir up a bit of contro...Leave it to lil’ ol’ me to stir up a bit of controversy!

I agree with your premise about the folks at medical facilities tending to address people as they appear….it’s happened before, and probably will again.

The “he/she” usage you cite in NYC is a bit of an anomaly. Is it still in use there today? I can’t imagine that it is…

Why might the lady be a Republican? There are still a ton of signs for the Republican candidate out here on the Delmarva, and almost none for the Democrat. In the counties here, Republicans win. (I admit to not paying attention to the spread.) I only recall seeing two Democratic bumper stickers in the area. The neighbors seem to talk about the Republican candidate quite a bit. Nothing about the Democrat, other than disparagement. There probably are some Democrats out there, “flying under the radar,” but that’s only on this side of the bay.

The mainland is a completely “different kettle of fish.”

I can’t argue about the mess in Baltimore City, since I used to work there and know first-hand of its many problems. They have been mis-handled for years under Democratic leadership.

Things have gotten worse. Case in point: about ten years ago, I used to walk around the Inner Harbor with a camera at sunrise, for the sole purpose of taking pictures (may post a couple in the future.) I wouldn’t even dream of doing that today. Regardless of my attire, the gangs would get me and my camera.
The legendary recent civil unrest we all remember, may only be the tip of the iceberg. How a Republican governor managed to be elected in the past gubernatorial cycle is somewhat befuddling…but the Democratic legislature keeps him from doing a whole lot of governing.

Our religious beliefs are protected by the Constitution. I personally don’t care what anyone’s religious beliefs are. They can go about theirs, and I will go about mine. Substitute any of the many religions, nationalities, colors, or male/female, for “Trans”, in any discrimination discussion, and it may give cause for reflection.

If a person’s Christian religious convictions are deeply held, does that give said person the right to discriminate against (insert other religions or sexualities here)? I submit that it doesn’t, but the final discussions and rulings on this haven’t happened yet.

We “could” go round and round about this topic (though I won’t). But in my eyes, "each to his own." "Live and let live."

Why can’t people just “play nice?”

Mandy
Mandy Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01547323395921637440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483143481224034343.post-27602801517410949882016-06-06T10:37:19.575-07:002016-06-06T10:37:19.575-07:00It seems like folks who work at medical facilities...It seems like folks who work at medical facilities have either been trained or are naturally inclined to address people as the appear. I have a nurse that works for me who did some of her early training at a hospital down in Greenwich area. She noted that back in those days the term that was used at the hospital to T folks of any bent was 'he/she'. The population of that part of NYC is almost 100% Democrat so even though I may perceive 'he/she' as a slur on T folks it was accepted speech in that part of NYC. What makes you think that the large woman who seemed to take a disliking to you was a Republican? We have plenty of hate filled people in NY who are Democrats. Look at the damage that was done in Baltimore which is run by Democrats and has been for as long as I can remember. If that woman had been a life long Democrat voter it would be hard to cast her as being ultra-conservative. While I may not agree with anti T sentiments I would defend her right to her religious beliefs, even if they conflicted with my own.
I try not to jump to conclusions and perhaps this woman jumped to a conclusion about you that was wrong or based on her own set of beliefs.
